THE IMPORTANCE OF EMERGING CONTAMINANTS

In light of the recent Obama administration announcement of a 'comprehensive plan to strengthen water quality monitoring', the Drinking Water Quality Technology Summit will be held on 13th and 14th July 2011 in Chicago. The summit provides an environment for investor and state-owned water utilities, government bodies and industry suppliers to critically evaluate the threat of emerging contaminants and new treatment technology.

Contaminants analysed are mainly endocrine disruptors; pharmaceuticals; personal care products and perchlorate. The treatment by advanced oxidation processes of these emerging contaminants are being studied within AquaFit4Use and PROLIPAPEL projects by UCM obtaining promising results for their control.
