WssTP has released its Position Paper on FP8 to create a Water Fund to the European Commission and to its members. WssTP advocates launching a “Water Programme” under the future research programmes of the European Commission. A successful programme will ensure that there is commonality and alignment of strategic goals between the different funding mechanisms promoted by the Commission.

United Arab Emirates estimate a real GDP growth of 3.1% for 2011. According to Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Company, the water demand in Abu Dhabi will grow a 43% in the next five years and the energy demand a 13% per year. The Emirate Governments have initiated a process to open the market to private international companies. In March the President of United Arab Emirates announced an inversion of 1.1 billion euros for infrastructures in water and energy.
