WORLD SHORT NEWS

February 2011
Directive 2010/75/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 24 November 2010 on industrial emissions (integrated pollution prevention and control).
Modification of the IPPC. The member States will have to adopt the new modifications before 7th January 2013.
For more than a decade, the European paper industry has invested, on average, €560 million a year in environmental improvements. The result has been what policy makers call the ‘decoupling’ of environmental impacts from production growth.
What does that mean in practice? Simply that while more paper is being produced than in 1990, the actual impact on the environment has decreased. The paper industry is committed to ensuring that this improvement is ongoing.
A sustainable approach to resources, promoting sustainable forest management, implementing environmental management systems and ecodesign, ensuring products are safe, fit for use and recyclable are all part of that commitment.
The European Commission will launch the 2011 Call for proposals for LIFE+ this February, with a budget of €265.36 million.
The Commission will hold an Information Day on 3rd March at the Dublin Custom House, Dublin.
